Handcrafted Log Shell Package Contents

Log Home Packages

As specialists in the art of handcrafting log homes, our log home packages contain only the log shell, as well as any log features that are requested. Any log home package that we construct contains all of the log work required for constructing your log home.

All of the logs used in the construction of your home are hand-peeled, then scribe fitted (Swedish cope) and corners notched to the exact contour of the log directly below. The result is that each log not only looks great, but they also have a perfect weather-tight fit. We use only the best quality logs, which are winter-cut to insure a minimal moisture content in the wood. Since we do not use standing dead (bug or fire killed) wood, only healthy trees will be ever be used in a Kodiak log home.

Standard features included with your log shell are:
  • 9' High log walls built from winter-cut spruce logs (12" to 14" mean diameter) that are inspected to insure straight grain.
    • Pine, fir, or cedar logs are also available, though the price of the home may vary according to the species chosen.
    • Different wall heights are possible, and will be accounted for if your plan specifies them.
  • All log beams, floor joists, and posts
  • All ridge pole(s) and purlins (roof system)
  • All window and door openings cut, key-wayed, and flared back
  • All archways cut and sanded
  • All corner notches cut using the Norwegian shrink-fit notch style
    • Other notch styles are available, including:
      • Dove-tail notch
      • Round notch
      • Saddle Notch
      • Butterfly notch
      • Diamond notches
  • All corners and door openings bolted with 9' long continuous bolts
  • All window openings pinned in place
  • ALL settler jacks required for main floor posts
  • Curls cut into log ends
  • All log trusses and turrets
  • Log handrails
  • Log stairs - both standard and spiral styles

If requested, the following Optional Features can also be included with your log home shell:
  • Log mantles (for your fireplace)
  • Log signs
  • Log Picnic Tables
  • Door / Window Package

The price that we quote for a home does not include the cost of shipping or crane rentals (for erection on your foundation), though we can make arrangements for these services if required. Our price does, however, includes the services of an experienced builder to supervise the reconstruction of your home on your foundation.
